Monarch is intoxicating — and that's before you imbibe a selection or two from its superlative drink menu. The gracious service, the architectural panache, the beautiful people, the sultry soundtrack: It's enough to knock you off your chair. The beverages are always calibrated to the season and to executive chef Brian Hale's menu, so it's unlikely that you'll find yourself dipping into the same list twice. What is unchanging about Monarch's drink menu is its inventiveness. Before the warm days slip entirely away, try the limoncello mojito, a purely refreshing drink made with muddled lemons, mint, sugar, club soda and Monarch's own lemon liqueur. The Monarch Martini is another winner: Cognac, housemade orangecello, fresh orange juice, moscato and a shot of cassis that drops to the bottom like a perfect marble. Also fabulous is the Bentley, a mixture of Bombay Sapphire gin, B&B, apricot brandy, fresh lime juice and bitters. Whether you enjoy your cocktail with one of Hale's superb dishes or sip it as an aperitif, you're guaranteed one of the finest drinking experiences in the city — or hell, anywhere.
